Recipe:

- 45ml amontillado sherry

- 30ml Bols genever

- 22.5ml orgeat

- 15ml orange juice

- 15ml lemon juice

- 2 dashes Angostura bitters

Shake everything over ice until sufficiently chilled, strain into a prechilled cocktail glass. No garnish (I think a dried lemon wheel works nice with the drier citrus flavours here).

A very interesting drink that surprised me with how much I enjoyed it. Sherry in general has an 85% success rate for me in cocktails, with the only exceptions being long drinks where too much is lost and you could have just made them without the fortified wine.

The drink is also interesting because (as mentioned on the Cocktail Virgin Blog) it appears among the "classics" in the first Death & Co book, even though no one else seems to know it. The few internet results only lead back to D&C. Probably one of the trio in NYC found this obscure favorite drink in a rare vintage bar book over a decade ago and wanted to sneak it in there. Two words about its origin would have been nice, though...

Absolutely fantastic balance, one of the very rare drinks with orange that I like, as it is used sparingly. Dry, nutty, and malty in the main body, it plays wonderfully with the obviously fruitier notes and the slight creaminess of the orgeat. Great first drink of the evening or even for day drinking and lunch.
